Pre-Blog Kits #8: HGUC Jegan Bombardment

This build was for Gundam Eclipse's 2012 Personalized Grunt Group Build. For this kit I started with the HGUC Stark Jegan, I added missile launchers by Kotobukiya that fold over the shoulders from an attachment point on the modified backpack. I modified HGUC GP02's front skirts to fit the Jegan mold and then attached VSBRs built from the Stark Jegan's fuel tanks as side skirts. The VSBR side skirts are tied into a cylindrical capacitor on the back skirt, via two sections of cable. I cobbled together a targeting scope and tracer gun from a Zaku machine gun and attached that to the right forearm. In addition, I added some basic pla-plating to the legs, shoulders, and chest.

RGM-89sb Jegan Bombardment [VSBR Test Type] - a non-existent design, though I decided to base it in the same era of the Universal Century as the Jegan Fireball... Another such Jegan Variant is the VSBR Test Type or RGM-89sb "Jegan Bombardment", cobbled together from spare parts from numerous other Jegan models, and equipped with an extensively overhauled reactor along with a massive energy capacitor; this Jegan model is intended to test the viability of of VSBR weapon systems on a mobile suit platform... the machine is deemed successful, though highly unbalanced, its targeting systems for the VSBRs are not entirely complete yet, to accommodate these issues and push it off into combat against the Cross Bone Vanguards forces it is equipped with a large targeting scope and tracer gun assembly on its right arm, along large missile pods to round out its ranged fire-power...

VSBR - Variable Speed Beam Rifle, the pilot can adjust the speed at which the mega particles used in the beam rifle are accelerated. Slower-speed particles produced a wider beam that delivered more raw damage, and higher-speed particles create a more tightly focused, penetrating beam.

Completed Kits #1: HG G-EXES 100

I think that I started on this kit last year (December 2012) and somehow or other my air brush jammed while running some Monster Kolor paints, it took me forever to get it working again and I lost motivation to finish it up.

Since then its been sitting on my desk 60% complete (all the gold, blue, and primer done). So this last weekend I decided that it needed to leave my desk for good.

I decided on a slight variation from the original plan, throw in a bit of red and experiment with decals from Samuel Decal and just fiddled around with weathering.

Notes:

100 - both the G-EXES and its sibling unit the G-Bouncer belong to the AGE continuity (Alternate Universe) but, their design is derived from the Type-100 or MSN-00100 Hyaku-Shiki a Universal Century design (more specifically of Zeta Gundam and Double Zeta Gundam fame)

Pre-Blog Kits #6: HGUC Blue Destiny Unit 2 (Nimbus Custom)

HGUC Blue Destiny Unit-2 Nimbus Custom, completed September 16 2012

This was my second entry but first completed entry into the Gundam Eclipse 2012 Summer War. There were really no serious alterations to this kit, its for the most part exactly as it is out of the box. I painted this up largely with Krylon spray cans with a few bits of Testor's enamels and Vallejo's acrylics here and there for detailing.

Blue Destiny - There are three units that use the same name, Units 1 through 3 all of which made their debut in Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: The Blue Destiny.

Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: The Blue Destiny - A trilogy of Sega Saturn video games set during the One Year War (that's Universal Century). The series made it's debut on September 20th, 1996 with an entry entitled Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story I: Blue Fear. On December 6th, 1996 this game received a sequel entitled Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story II: Those Who Inherit Blue. The series' last entry, Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story III: Those Who Are Judged, was released on March 7, 1997. Finally, later that year on August 29th, Bandai released the compilation under it's final title of Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: The Blue Destiny.

Pre-Blog Kits #5: LBX Proto I

I built this kit for Gundam Eclipse's 2013 LBX Group Build, with this kit I just tried a few different and new things and had bit of fun with it. To begin with this is a very inexpensive kit 1200 JPY or around 13~14 CAD, it was a victim of one perspective design, things really only like right if you look at them from specific perspective otherwise you'll be seeing a lot of holes. So what I did with this kit was fill in the holes, glue up the seam lines and sand a great deal. For the colour scheme I decided on something a little more adventurous by comparison with the usual for me; Krylon's purple, orange, ivory, oil-brushed bronze, copper, and red, with a few specific details picked out in Vallejo's red a black.

Notes:

LBX - a poor attempt at making an acronym, Little Battler eXperience. Evidently the entire line-up is in 1/1 scale, and standing no taller the the average can of pop. 

Proto I - I was personally corrected on this multiple times, the "I" in the name isn't the roman numeral one, but is rather "I" the letter as in Ikaros, a figure in a Greek legend.

Pre-Blog Kits #4: HMM Shadow Fox

Apart from a very minor alteration to the head sculpt and a slightly darker colour scheme; this is pretty much the HMM Shadow Fox as it is directly out of the box. When painting this kit I used a rather different combination of paints; Krylon matte black with Vallejo's steel for details on all o the outer shell parts, for the inner frame I used Krylon's satin nickel plus Vallejo's black panel lines, and Krylon's silver, gold, and oil-brushed bronze were used throughout for colour separation. All followed up by a couple of rounds of flat coat.

I started this project in December of 2012, for the first Zoids Group Build unfortunately due to some poor planning on my part I ran late in completing it for the group build.

HMM - High Master Mold, a line of 1/72 scale kits by Kotobukiya usually based on Zoids, though they will be extending the line into other things in 2014.

Zoids - (ゾイド Zoido) is a multi-media model-kit-based franchise originating from Japanese toy company Tomy (now Takara-Tomy). The majority of the franchise is built around and focused on the various motorized model kit series. More recently, companies outside of Takara-Tomy have been licensed to produce Zoids kits (Kotobukiya). This has led to Zoids being made as large die-cast figures, highly detailed posing kits, smaller action figures and even PVC figurines. The various anime series, comics, manga books and video games all serve as tie-in media products for the franchise, to expand both consumer base and franchise recognition.

HG AGE-1 Razor WIP #2

As mentioned in WIP #1; at Gundam Eclipse we are currently running a Modified/Kit-Bash Group Build through to the end of 2013, for this one I will be building Bandai's HG Gundam AGE-1 Normal with the addition of Hobby Japan's AGE-1 Razor Conversion. With that said since last update I have the Razor add-on finished up, with a few more alterations.

I've added two downward drawn beam sabres to the backpack, and I've decided to go without the swords the kit came with. As they will clash slightly with what I have in mind.

I had planned to scratchbuild a shield or brace of sorts for the left arm, I started with the AGE-1 Normal's basic shield and cut it up slimmed it down and then filled in the gaps using pla-plate and milliput. The shield is inspired by a variety of sources the Valvrave I's strike brace is probably the biggest one.

I've also decided on a one-hand long sword that will remain carried in hand until I figure out something better, and two short swords that can be drawn over the shoulder.

I still intend to add some plating, fuel tanks, and the metal thrusters. I'm currently using a slight;y more bulky left arm to make it possible to mount the shield more easily.

Notes:

Milliput - A two part epoxy putty, comes in multiple colours I was using yellow-grey in the pictures above. This product comes in two separate tubes, you can cut them in equal portions, mix them thoroughly, and then apply where needed within a day or two it will typically dry rock hard, at which point you can sand it down into shape.

Pla-plate - Poly-Styrene sheets, the same stuff that credit cards are made of, come in multiple colours (I used black and white above) and thicknesses (from paper thin to 1/8" or so).
